Rob and I came to South Haven for years on day trips and vacations from our home in Lansing, Illinois. We enjoyed the beaches, the sunsets, the Kal Haven Trail and the small town feel. We have always loved to entertain and thought that owning a Bed and Breakfast in our favorite place to relax would be just perfect for us. In 2005 we took a huge leap of faith and bought a place that caught our eye with the Black River on one side and the Kal Haven Trail just about on the other. The 1920’s farmhouse had gone through some remodels over the years, but we envisioned its potential as an inn with some major remodeling.
We were lucky to visit southeast Michigan as the leaves peaked and were lucky to find the perfect place to stay! After a ride through the woods, a golden yard greeted us, along with Judine and Bob welcoming us warmly. The first-floor room – St. Moritz – was so comfortable with the king bed. We toasted our toes as we turned the chairs to the fireplace! Each morning the full trees greeted us out the bay window.
The dining room offered beautiful views of the trees and offered a quiet retreat after a busy weekend. Best were our three breakfasts! Daily, Judine offered eggs, meat and a sweet treat, along with juices and Bob’s delicious coffee. Over breakfast we chatted with them like old friends. Such a special time. They offered just the right amount of pampering, attention and care, and were so enjoyable! The inn is spotless, comfortable and beautiful. We will be back! November, 2023

My wife Crystal and I stayed here for an anniversary weekend getaway. As an LGBT couple and people that have never stayed at a bed and breakfast before, we were nervous about what to expect. Bob and Judine were above and beyond any expectations we may have had. We immediately felt comfortable and safe within their home, then left feeling like family. The house itself was immaculate and decorated beautifully. You walk into a spotless home that smells wonderful to be greeted by the sweetest couple that are ready to make your stay unforgettable. My husband and I have stayed at several B&Bs over the years – but the Black River Inn is now our absolute favorite! The house, itself, is incredibly warm and welcoming. Bob and Judine made us feel as if we’d been friends all along. There were always wonderful snacks out and the breakfasts were just incredible, served in a beautiful open and bright room. We stayed in the Lake Placid Room which was larger than the picture made it look with such a comfy bed and stunning wood all over. October, 2022
